Puerto Chiapas is a small port on the Southern West Coast of Mexico.   The port entrance lies about 13 kilometers northwest of the mouth of the Suchiate River which is the international boundary between Mexico and Guatemala.  It is the gateway to Mexican state Chiapas where you can find various interesting cities and tourist sites.  This is the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the history and cultivation of coffee, bananas and cocoa.  There are several plantations you can visit in the area.  Puerto Chiapas is also the port from where you can visit the city of Tapachula.  This historic town offers lovely museums and shops with local produce.


This is one of the most beautiful and inviting ports I've ever seen!


It's like we've docked in the middle of a beautiful park!

The two photos above are taken from my balcony.  The pool was accessed by many guests on the ship - quite large - belongs to the "bungalow" in the background.   Your first cocktail is free!   Wonder what you pay for each successive libation?

Pretty tired today, so have stayed aboard and hunkered down in my room before joining the Russian dancers for dinner tonight.

That table was at once interesting, and trying for me.  One guest at the table was again the pro-gambler.   Still fascinating!   The two dancers, Karyna and Dimytro, husband and wife, are absolutely adorable, talented, young and beautiful!  Though their English ability is limited, their warmth and sincerity make up for any misspoken language.

The man to my left was incredibly uninteresting and when he did speak, it was not "with" anyone, but "to" everyone - more like a lecture!   Happy when the evening ended. He considered himself an expert on the American stock market.   From my perspective - not!

January 23 - Half Moon Island, Antarctica

This next bit is from my journal 4 years ago. Friday, February 13, 2015 Half Moon Island, Antarctica The air is redolent with penguin poop!!!  The day is beautiful, no wind, temperatures of about  38 to 40 degrees, with some sunshine.  Weather.   We are in the red group and the second to debark to the island.  Zodiac ride from ship to shore should be very calm. Organized all of the clothing last evening, so just have to be certain of the order of layers to be worn.   We each have two basic under layers,  Getting into the "under armor" is like getting into an old fashioned girdle - takes lots of energy and is way too much clothing for indoors. After the two basic layers, we add on waterproof / windproof pants, a fleece vest.   I've added a balaclava, which is a fleece circular scarf for around my neck, and a wool hat. . . . and we're not done yet!    Next is the quilted under jacket, and the outer expedition jacket in bright orange and grey.  On the l

Adventures in Buenos Aires and flying home.

Where to begin! When we checked into the hotel on the morning of the 3rd, the concierge suggested we take in the craft fair out in the district of San Telmo.   Also there was a very good Parilla - the Argentines' answer to BBQ . . . and more meat than one can eat.         The fair was a disappointment in that all of the crafts were very crude and though very inexpensive, there wasn't much that we would have purchased, even had we the room to pack it in our luggage!  While hesitant to post the next photo, this bar stood out in the craft fair area.      We walked about 6 blocks of the fair and then headed for the restaurant.   There would be a 40 minute wait and there was nowhere to wait.   We decided to walk down the block and have a drink.   Though it's not Brazil, (just next door) - we ordered Caipirihnas, the national drink of Brazil.    It took forever for them to come and when they finally did arrive, the waitress lost her grip on the tray and one drink topp
